Location and DirectionsThe Cistern of Theodosius is situated in the heart of Istanbul’s Historical Peninsula, making it easily accessible from city’s other lively locations. The cistern is approximately:
  • 1 km from the Hagia Sophia
  • 1.2 km from the Blue Mosque
  • 1.5 km from the Grand Bazaar

General Ticket Information

  • Daytime Visit Ticket: Valid for sessions between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
  • Evening Dervish Show Ticket: The evening event starts at 8:00 PM.

Payment Options: We take Turkish Lira in cash and credit cards for extra costs. Note that we do not take any foreign currencies. 

Ticket Validity: Tickets are valid for a single entry on the date of purchase.

Site Rules

  • Photography: Visitors are allowed to take photos and videos as long as it does not disturb other guests or jeopardize their privacy. Professional photography and the use of tripods require written permission.
  • Right of Admission: Facility management has the right to refuse entry to individuals deemed inappropriate for admission.
  • Luggage Restrictions: For safety and comfort of all guests, large bags and suitcases are not permitted inside the facility.
  • Food and Beverages: Food and drinks are not allowed inside the facility.
  • Smoking: Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is strictly banned inside the facility.
  • Pets: Pets are not allowed in the facility.

Important Notices

  • Water Drips: Because of the humidity, there may be water dripping from the ceiling. Please be careful with your electronic devices as they may be exposed to moisture.
  • Slippery Surfaces: The cistern has a dim lighting, and the floors can be slippery. Please walk carefully.
  • Footwear: High-heeled shoes are not recommended, since the stairs and walking paths may not be suitable for such footwear.
  • Stair Safety: When using the stairs, please hold onto the handrails for safety.
  • Low Railings: The railings inside the cistern are low; leaning on them may be  dangerous and consequently prohibited.
